Fencing Programs

Note: Equipment is provided for all of the programs the Bladeworks Fencing Club offers. For a breakdown of each program and their respective dates and times please go to the Schedule of Events section or contact us. Another important note is that the beginner program is restricted to ages 8 and up.

Beginner Program

An introductory course where you will learn all the fencing specific movements, the required coordination, terminology and strategy that goes into a very enjoyable recreational activity or eventually, as you advance, in a competitive endeavor.

Beginners are expected to wear track-pants (not shorts), a t-shirt and some comfortable running shoes. All required equipment is provided by the Bladeworks Fencing Club.

Novice Program

A continuation of the beginner program with greater emphasis on technique, and more advanced fencing tactics to prepare students for the advanced program. The students broaden their knowledge in fencing and fencing tactics, they gain more experience doing hands-on exercises and supervised fencing. They become more independent in their learning process and learn how and when to ask the coach certain questions. At this point training exercises outside of the fencing classes are critical and prove to be crucial to the students' advancement in fencing.

Participants tend to become competitive in the sport of fencing and therefore procure their own equipment during the novice program. Please contact us to find out about our discounted rates on fencing equipment.

Advanced Program (includes the Intermediate Program)

This program is for fencers that have completed the beginner program and have excelled or for fencers that have completed the novice program. Experienced fencers are always welcome to join us and it always happens that people switch clubs for one reason or another. Students at this level usually own their own equipment, which comes as a convenience factor due to the fact all or close to all of the advanced students go regularly to competitions. The Bladeworks Fencing Club also provides equipment if needed, so do not hesitate to contact us with regards to this topic.

Private lessons with coaches are available to students at this level. Please inquire the coach at the club or contact us.

Private Lessons

The private lesson is by far the best method for fencing training. With no exception, all good fencers use the one-on-one private instruction with a coach as the core training for their success. There are two sabre coaches part of our club and one epee coach, all experienced and eager to share their knowledge with fencing students. Individual private lessons with a good coach will convey the correct techniques to the student and build the foundation for skillful fencing. Correct training is paramount to achieving mastery in fencing. To learn more about our coaches please check their biography in the Coaches section.
